Here's a role posted by Trinity House Lighthouse Services
Description: From Trinity House Lighthouse Services -
£25,383 pa rising to £31,423 pa dependent upon experience,
plus overtime and benefits package including a Civil Service pension
Location: St Just, with national travel
As the General Lighthouse Authority for England, Wales, the Channel Islands and Gibraltar we deliver reliable, efficient and cost-effective aids to navigation such as lighthouses, lightvessels, buoys and radio navigation, ensuring thousands of mariners navigate their way safely around the UK’s busiest waters. Proud of our reputation afforded to us by many centuries of dedication to the nation’s maritime infrastructure, we are a forward-thinking organisation and it is our ability to meet new challenges and the changing requirements of the modern mariner that keeps us relevant and effective.
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a technical team responsible for the maintenance and repair of the electrical and mechanical systems on our aids to navigation including lighthouses, beacons and other installations. The working environments vary from land based installations to those that are off shore, many requiring access over rough ground. Given the location of the stations it is a requirement of the post to spend significant time away from home working and living in close proximity of your work colleagues. This, coupled with the physical nature of the duties involved, will require appropriate levels of health and fitness. Modes of transport to access the installations can be a combination of road transport, boat and helicopter.
To be considered for this post, it is essential that you have a BTEC level 3 or equivalent in an Electrical/Mechanical based engineering discipline. Previous experience in a technical maintenance role is also essential, along with a thorough working knowledge of health and safety legislation. You must possess good IT skills and written communication skills including report writing.
The post will be based at our St Just Offices, but will involve extensive UK travel with extended time away from home.
The starting salary is dependent upon experience and is scalable as above, increasing via progression through the competency framework attached to this position. Due to the remote locations of our work, non-guaranteed overtime is available and averages around £5-8k per annum.
