Compass Associates are proud to be working exclusively with a leading provider and award-winning Specialist Residential School provider, with a remit to recruit for a new Assistant Headteacher for the one the leading provision in the Kingston upon Thames area.
The Assistant Headteacher will part a strong leadership team and assist in the running of large and traditionally modern Specialist Residential School site for children aged between 8 -16 years old with Severe Learning Difficulties, Autism and Behavioural Issues. As the Assistant Headteacher, you will be jointly accountable for overseeing the strategic development of the education programs provided across the site. You will be jointly responsible for leading a very strong, capable and experienced team. Working in collaboration with the Senior Management Team, you will be monitoring, assessing and implementing new procedures to raise standards and increase the overall performance of the pupils. You will develop and mentor the staffing team and recognise training requirements to maintain high performance ratings. This Specialist Residential School has a deserved reputation for ensuring positive outcomes for complex learners, who have often used their challenging behaviour as a basis for communication prior to placement. Through detailed multi-disciplinary assessment, and using evidence-based teaching approaches, our client strives to get young people re-engaged with learning.
Specific leadership skills within Specialist Education and/or Residential Schools for pupils with; Severe Learning Disability and/or Autistic Spectrum Disorder.
Qualified Teacher status & NPQH is desirable
Extensive Knowledge of OFSTED and their inspection process
Previous experience of motivating and managing challenging students
Performance management and strategic planning
Strong communication and self-management skills
My client is looking to run this process across 2 stages, which will initially begin with an informal conversation with the Managing Director. The second stage will include a formal interview and a presentation.
Successful applicants will hold an accredited formal Teaching Qualification. Knowledge of all/some of the following is desirable: Teaching and Learning for pupils with Severe Learning Difficulties, Autism and Behavioural Issues. National Curriculum/Accreditation, SEN pedagogy & Safeguarding. In return, my client is looking at offering a salary between £50,000 p/a.
